Clean Beauty and 10-free Formula: Debunked

Clean Beauty and 10-free Formula: Debunked

Everyone’s talking about clean beauty, but what does it even mean? Is it just a fad? Is it a hoax? What makes a product “clean?” There’s so many questions surrounding this topic, but have no fear, GLU’s got Y-O-U!

DID YOU KNOW?

The term “clean” in the beauty industry used to refer to a natural, “no-makeup” makeup look after CoverGirl released a make-up line called “Clean Make-up” in the 1970’s.

Nowadays, “clean beauty” looks a little different. It’s not about your appearance, but rather what you’re putting on your face and body. In order for a product to be considered “clean,” it’s important the company is formulating it without chemicals that could be harmful to you.

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE BIG NO’S

Some chemicals that “clean beauty” is fighting against include:

  • Formaldehyde
  • Asbestos
  • Toluene (specifically in nail products)
  • Phthalates (yeah, we don’t know how to pronounce this one either),
  • Parabens
  • Lead

And that’s just naming a few....

Naturally, many questions arise when it comes to clean beauty. There’s no streamlined definition of it, and no definite list of ingredients companies need to leave out in order to have a product be considered “clean.” Since cosmetics are only FDA-regulated and not FDA-approved, it’s on the company to make sure they are labeling their products carefully, and truthfully.

So make sure you do your research before purchasing or putting any kind of personal care product on your body!

Fortunately enough, we’ve already done the research for you! We want to make sure Y-O-U feel good about putting our products on your nails and hands. Our nail polish is 10-free, non-toxic, vegan, and cruelty-free.

What’s a 10-Free formula, you ask? In the clean nail polish industry, it’s the highest level of non-toxicity you can have in a polish.

That means we exclude 10 harmful chemicals from our products, in comparison to other 3-,5-,7-, or 9- products.

Unlike most clean beauty, the 10-free formula has a definite list of ingredients that are excluded. When you get our polish, we can guarantee your mani will be free of:

TPHP, dibutyl phthalate, toluene, xylene, ethyl tosylamide, camphor, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, parabens, and tert-butyl hydroperoxide.

If any nail company says their product has a 10-free formula, these ingredients should not be in their product (and if they are, then it’s not a 10-free formula!)

We know how difficult it is to keep track of what’s going on and in your body nowadays. According to ABC News, women put an average of 168 chemicals on their bodies on the daily. Now some of these are unavoidable, but it’s important to make sure you’re controlling the ones that are avoidable. As you strive for a clean beauty and skincare routine, rest assured that GLU’s got Y-O-U and your needs in mind. Check out our newest collection, Ice Cream Dreams, to see just how beautiful our clean formula can look!
